Adventures and Birding in Borneo
Meeting and program at 7:00 PM Wednesday September 13, 2017. Location: at the Manistee Youth Center (former Manistee Armory on First St.)
In January and February this year Brian Allen joined with a small group of Michigan birders and visited Malaysian Borneo. The visit included touring Dermakot Forest Preserve, one of the most remote reserves in Borneo that still has a nearly full compliment of original wildlife including pygmy elephant, orangutans, gibbons, and clouded leopards. Borneo is one of the earth's greatest biodiverstity hotspots and is under considerable threat from oil palm plantations. The Dermakot preserve is one success story that Brian will be happy to report.
