SPRING MIGRATION COUNT

Saturday May 14, 2016

The spring migration count or the NAMC as it has been called is scheduled this year and for the first time in years falls on a later date much more suitable for finding warblers and other neotropical migrants.

We will again divide up into teams like on the Christmas Bird Count but for the spring migration count we cover the entire COUNTY!  Many interesting areas including Tippy Dam where the Say's Phoebe was found in March this year, and the Red Bridge area where Cerulean Warblers and Louisiana Waterthrushes are often found are included in our count area.

Contact Brian Allen at 231-510-9380 if you are interested in joining a field party for the count or Don Kogut at 231-723-5928 if you would like to count birds at your feeder during the count day.

Manistee Christmas Bird Count Dec. 19, 2015

Join the Manistee Audubon members for the Christmas Bird Count on Saturday Dec. 19.

If you like being outdoors and can stand a little winter weather AND have an interest in birds and wildlife you can help.  Join a group in the field to count all the bird species we can find in our count circle or count your own yard or feeders.  The count takes place within the circle on the map below:

To join the count and a field party contact Brian Allen at 231-510-9380 (accepts text messages) or to count your feeders or yard contact Don Kogut at 723-5928 (voice only).

Also new this year (or back to the old tradition) we will meet after the count at the Lake Bluff Audubon center at 5:30 PM for a compilation dinner.  Bring your results and if you would like something to pass.  The club will provide veggies and lasagna.

Help us to stay near the top of the best counts in Michigan.  Despite having fewer birders our great location on the water and along the rivers makes it possible to see up to 80 species of birds in the area.  This total is about as good as any count in Michigan.  See you soon!
